PE at Rowlatts Hill Primary

Our Vision for PE and Sport

At Rowlatts Hill Primary School, we believe that PE and Sport is an essential part of a child’s educational and social development. Therefore, we aim to provide a balanced program offering a variety of opportunities to develop a broad range of life skills including collaboration, confidence and competition. Through PE and Sport we also aim to encourage children to lead healthy, active lifestyles.

PE Curriculum

At Rowlatts Hill Primary School, our pupils have access to two hours of PE every week through which we develop the six areas of activity according to the National Curriculum – Gymnastics, Games, Dance, Athletics, Swimming and Outdoor Adventure Activities.

Pupils are taught a range of sports including football, basketball, gymnastics, netball, tag rugby, kwik cricket, badminton, tennis, swimming and athletics. All pupils are encouraged to compete in the correct manner through intra and inter school sport.

PE and Sports Partnerships

We here at Rowlatts aim to provide the pupils with a range of different experiences. Therefore, we frequently have outside agencies coming into school to work with the pupils. Such outside agencies work in conjunction with the class teachers to deliver, plan and coach pupils and staff alike. Some of these agencies include Leicester Tigers, Leicester City, Leicester Riders, Leicester City Ladies, Leicester Foxes, Change for Life and DMU Moving Together.

The Housings System and Sports Day

To promote collaboration and team work amongst the children, we have introduced competitive sport into the Housing System present at Rowlatts. The children are split up into four houses– Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn and Neptune. Each half term the children have a competition in the sport or skill that they have been focusing on within their PE lessons competing within their year group. Points are awarded to all houses dependent on where they finish and are then added to the school totals for the final event – Sports Day.

School Year 2015 – 2016

Football

Tuesday 15th September – Rowlatts Hill versus Catherine Juniors (home)

Score – Rowlatts Hill 3 v 3 Catherine Juniors

Scorers – Mason (2), Santiago (1)

Match Report – In the first match of the year, Rowlatts began brightly taking the lead after a mazy run down the wing by Mason. They then doubled their lead after a lovely cross from Zach, which was met by the head of Mason for his second goal of the game. However, Rowlatts Hill fell asleep and back came Catherine Juniors with two great goals to make it 2-2 at half time. In the second half, both teams were trying really hard to score. The breakthrough came when the away team Catherine Juniors scored to make it 2-3. Having gone behind for the first time in the game Rowlatts Hill rallied and managed to score a late equaliser, levelling the scores at 3-3.

Man of the Match – Mason

Monday 28th September – Rowlatts Hill versus Merrydale Juniors (away)

Score – Merrydale Juniors 1 v 5 Rowlatts Hill

Scorers – Franco (3), Mason (2)

Match Report – Our away first game of the season saw some changes to the line-up as we travelled to Merrydale Juniors. The game started off evenly with some lovely football on show from both teams. Having had several chances Rowlatts finally broke the deadlock through Mason to make it 1-0. This goal was closely followed by two more goals, one from the winger Mason and another from Franco. This made it 3-0 at half time. In the second half it was more of the same as Rowlatts had many chances scoring another 2 goals to make it 5-0. Franco scoring two more to claim his hatrick and the man of match award. Merrydale hit back with a consolation goal.

Monday 12th October – Rowlatts Hill versus Thurnby Lodge (home)

Score – Rowlatts Hill 2 v 2 Thurnby Lodge

Scorers – Zach (1), Mason (1)

Match Report – Another home draw for the boys and girls in blue and white. In a well contested game, it was Rowlatts that took the lead through a wonderful free kick by Zach. Rowlatts were able to keep hold of the lead for a matter of minutes before the defence was broken. Thurnby scored a lovely team goal to make it 1-1 at half time. Unfortunately, Rowlatts paid the price for missing a handful of opportunities in the first half. In the second it was more of the same. Then the breakthrough came through leading goal scorer Mason. All Rowlatts had to do was keep hold of the lead but in the last minute Thurnby broke away and levelled the scores at 2-2.

Man of the Match – Nishad
